Juan’s experience is in scientific management, technology transfer and venture funding in the biotechnology and the pharmaceutical industries. He is particularly interested in new innovative biological treatments and developments in evolving drug discovery processes.
In 2013, Juan founded the Biotechnology Business Institute (BBI), where he is managing director. Since then, he has enabled and reviewed more than 55 business new plans in drug discovery and medical devices, working with different research centres and early-stage biotech companies from across Europe. The BBI Business School's international panel of experts is composed of over 300 industry experts. The BBI is now established in Cambridge, Barcelona and Mexico and has become centre of reference for business valuation, international business development and private funding initiatives.
Juan started his career in research and development as oncology research assistant at the Medical College of the University of Barcelona, with focus on liquid tumours, while combining his university degree in molecular biology at the University of Barcelona. He also holds an MBA in the pharmaceutical industry and has practical experience of the industry as a product manager at the marketing department of AstraZeneca Spain SA., where he focused on infectious disease area.
In parallel to his current role, Juan has experience in participating at many relevant Life Sciences' conferences and congresses across Europe and the United States, as well as other innovation hubs and regions such as Israel, Colombia, Chile, Mexico, China, Indonesia, and Dubai. He has been a speaker, expert jury member and a moderator of debates over emerging trends in our sector. Also, he is board committee member of the AnlgoNordic Life Sciences conference since 2022 and a Technical Reviewer for the Canadian Strategic Science Fund.
